Capital Group (CG) is one of the largest investment management organization.

CG was in the process of migrating from their thick client to thin client. The new application was called Horizon. This is an internal application used for updating plan prices. I was assigned to this project to help redesign and improve the usability of the application.

🔍 Research

Given the short deadline, I needed to be strategic and efficient in my process. Therefore, I focused on improving the usability of the application and ensuring the patterns were scalable, since the developers were required to build additional screens after my assignment.

Heuristic Analysis & Audit

The CG team did User Accessibility Testing (UAT) prior to me joining. I used this to do an audit of the existing experience and visually mapped out the issues outlined in the UAT. In addition, I simultaneously conducted a heuristic analysis of the screens in order to improve the usability of the components and patterns.

This was a complicated application that required me to do research before jumping to a solution. Hence, I met with two end-users who I shadowed for 3 days observing their tasks/workflow. I used this to create quick personas to help highlight the main pain points and opportunities. Also, I created journey maps for each user.
