Empathy @ Core

8 years ago, I ignited my UX design passion while launching my venture, Yibby. Unknowingly, I applied UX techniques that helped amass 500+ active users.

My user-centric approach, focusing on empathizing and connecting with users to identify pain points, remains a cornerstone of my career. Today, I lead and mentor designers, using empathy to unlock their full potential.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of projects do you take on?

I specialize in complex B2B application design and B2C mobile and web product development. I excel at project initiation, establishing information architecture, and owning end-to-end design processes.

Do you have any research experience?

I bring extensive research expertise, often initiating and customizing research methods. I favor guerrilla research, allowing in-person user interactions and on-site observations. Additionally, I harness online platforms like Reddit, Discord, and social media to gain profound user insights.

How do you work virtually?

I've built my entire UX career working remotely, consistently fostering strong team dynamics and positive virtual relationships. I've seamlessly delivered projects and cultivated connections without any challenges. Remote work is my standard, but I'm open to working on-site.

What is your design process?

My design process commences with a deep dive into the problem space, collaborating closely with project managers to grasp project requirements. I then delve into user research, including interviews, shadowing, and surveys, to inform the creation of personas, journey maps, and affinity maps. Site maps are developed to ensure a user-centric flow, and I share these insights with the team.

Moving forward, I craft wireframes, ranging from low to high fidelity screens, and create prototypes as needed, maintaining continuous team involvement. Regular check-in calls keep everyone updated, and comprehensive documentation facilitates seamless implementation.

How do you work with a large team?

I thrive in large team settings, establishing clear roles and fostering open communication from project inception. I firmly believe that transparent communication is key to achieving success.

Do you have leadership experience?

While at Infosys/Wongdoody, I led multiple projects and mentored interns and junior designers. In my current role at Ziosk, I lead a team of designers, placing a strong emphasis on design operations, strategic planning, and the implementation of structured processes to ensure the team's continued success.

As a manager with a democratic leadership style, I believe in fostering an environment where designers can learn and grow through hands-on experience. I encourage them to take ownership of their design projects, allowing them to make decisions and learn from both their successes and failures. While I provide guidance and support at critical junctures, I also value their input and creativity, empowering them to contribute their unique perspectives to the design process. This collaborative approach not only builds a sense of ownership but also nurtures a team of self-driven, confident designers who continually evolve and improve.

Beyond my work, I invest my time in mentoring aspiring designers in Thinkful's UX design bootcamp.
