SLB's sales team used an excel document to create quotes for different clients. SLB wanted to move away from excel to a web application. I was the lead UX designer to help modernize their current tool.
I had a very short deadline to complete phase 1 of the project, which was drafting a quote.
In order to create a brand new web application, I needed to understand how the sales team used the excel document to draft quotes. I did a virtual shadow of a sales representative and sales manager. Not only did I learn how they used the excel document for drafting quotes, but I realized their process required a lot collaboration.
Next, I was granted access to the excel document and used it to do an audit. Furthermore, I created a site map to outline the different calculations needed for the different quote types.
I created the journey map to ensure I identified the sales representatives and manager's workflow. In addition, I notated key actions they took in order to complete their task. This was a great way for me to ensure that the journey in the new application matched their natural flow.
Once I validated my direction with the users and engineering team, I jumped into wires. This was another opportunity for me to get the users involved early in the design decisions.
